Odor Removal Services
Identify the Source. Correct the Environment. Remove the Odor.
Persistent odors are not cosmetic problems. They are indicators.
When an odor lingers, returns or worsens over time, it is telling you something about the indoor environment. Masking the smell does not solve the problem and often makes it harder to identify what is actually happening.
At Bio-Shock, odor removal always begins with assessment. Odors are often the result of human or pet activity—such as long-term smoking or pet urine and waste—that has saturated materials and surfaces. Until these sources are identified and the affected areas are properly treated, the odor will continue to off-gassing into your living space.
👃 When Odors Become a Problem
Clients contact Bio-Shock for odor concerns in many forms:
-
Lingering smoke odors from tobacco or fire.
-
Persistent animal odors from pet urine, waste or dander.
-
Sharp or chemical-like odors with no obvious source.
-
Odors that seem to move through the home or change with weather and HVAC operation.
The goal is not to cover the smell. The goal is to understand why it exists.
🔍 Odor Diagnostic Options
To solve the problem, we must first identify the type of odor you are experiencing. Bio-Shock offers two distinct paths for evaluation:
1. Targeted Odor Assessment ($89 Flat Rate)
For non-microbial or specific localized odors. This assessment is designed for the most common issues homeowners face: smoke and pet odors. Instead of spending money on masking products that do not work, this $89 diagnostic finds the source and determines what is affected.
Common Odors Addressed:
-
Smoke: Tobacco, wood smoke or fire-related odors.
-
Animal Contamination: Pet urine, waste or dander.
-
Chemical/Material: Off-gassing from new carpet, paint or construction materials.
-
Mystery Odors: Sharp, sweet or acrid smells with no obvious origin.
💡 Assessment Credit: If you choose to proceed with the recommended odor removal services after the evaluation, a $50 credit from the assessment will be applied toward the total cost of the service.
2. Microbial & Moisture Odors (Musty/Mildew)
If you are experiencing musty, damp or "mildew-like" smells, these are typically tied to moisture and microbial activity. These odors are evaluated as part of a Certified Indoor Health Assessment to identify the moisture drivers and the extent of any mold growth.
🐕 Pet Odor & Contamination
Animal odors from urine, waste or dander are more than just surface issues. When pet accidents occur, the organic compounds saturate carpet, padding, subflooring and even baseboards.
Why DIY Treatments Fail: Most retail enzyme cleaners only address the top layer of the material. As the building’s humidity and temperature fluctuate, the reservoirs trapped in the subfloor or drywall continue to off-gas, causing the smell to return indefinitely.
The Bio-Shock Approach:
-
📍 Identification: I use specialized moisture mapping and sensors to find the exact saturation points.
-
🧼 Neutralization: I move beyond masking by using professional-grade stabilization to break down the organic compounds at the source.
-
🌬️ Systemic Cleaning: I address the secondary contamination that has settled in the air and HVAC system from long-term pet activity.
🚬 Tobacco & Fire Smoke Removal
Smoke is a particulate and a vapor. Whether it is from years of indoor smoking or a localized fire event, smoke residues attach to every vertical and horizontal surface in the home—including the inside of your walls and ductwork.
The Movement of Smoke: Smoke is driven by heat and pressure. It seeks out the coolest parts of a home, which often means it is pulled directly into the HVAC return and redistributed into every room. This creates a "third-hand smoke" environment that persists long after the smoking has stopped.
Our Removal Process:
-
🔍 Assessment: I determine the depth of the smoke penetration to see what can be cleaned and what must be removed.
-
🛠️ Stabilization: I use advanced particulate removal and vapor technologies to neutralize the odor at the molecular level.
-
🚀 Restoration: The goal is to return the home to a neutral state where no smoke residues remain to impact your health or air quality.
🌬️ How Odors Contaminate a Home
Odors are typically caused by volatile compounds or particulate matter that moves through a structure based on airflow and pressure relationships.
The Movement of Contamination: It is a common misconception that an odor stays confined to its source. Because of building dynamics and airflow, an odor issue in one area often migrates to other parts of the home. As these odor compounds travel, they can contaminate secondary surfaces and settle within the HVAC system. This turns a localized problem into a systemic issue that requires professional stabilization to resolve.
🛡️ Why Assessment Comes First
Bio-Shock does not remove odors without first understanding the environment. Assessment determines:
-
Whether the odor is from human activity, pets or building materials.
-
How air movement is distributing odor compounds and contaminating other zones.
-
Whether reservoirs exist in materials, furniture or HVAC components.
-
What must change to eliminate the odor permanently.
-
🛠️ Remediation Philosophy
Odor removal is not masking. Effective odor removal requires:
-
Identifying and eliminating the odor source (such as pet waste or smoke residue).
-
Removing or treating contaminated materials and secondary reservoirs.
-
Addressing airflow and pressure relationships to prevent redistribution.
-
Cleaning residual compounds from the air and HVAC system.
-
🚀 Next Steps
If an odor persists in your home or building, the first step is still a conversation. We’ll talk through what you’re noticing, where it occurs and how long it has been present. From there, we’ll determine whether an assessment is appropriate and what level of evaluation makes sense.
The objective is not masking. The objective is removal.
